Fusion Fellowships

What is a Fusion Fellowship?

A Fusion Fellowship is simply a community of Jesus followers gathering and dispersing to be disciples and make disciples on every front we exist in. It follows the pattern in Acts 2:42 prioritising deep engagement with the word of God: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching”, and authentic prayerful community: “and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer”

It’s important to understand that the ‘Fusion’ in Fusion Fellowship is a verb not a brand or a denominational title. A Fusion Fellowship is not a traditional Church, in fact we encourage everyone to remain connected deeply and meaningfully to the wider network of traditional churches. We don’t usually meet on a Sunday morning for this reason.

Scientifically the term ‘Fusion’ is the process of bringing atoms together to create light. Fusion Fellowships function the same way. God’s people gathering to focus in on the light of God’s word and then focus outwards to shine that light into the darkness around us.

We are intentionally worshipful. We are intentionally missional. We are intentionally a community.
We believe the word of God is to be lived and that the Kingdom of God is not an idea but a practice.

Fusion Fellowships meet in different places and look different to each other but they all have four main ingredients: Gather, Worship, Grow, Serve

Gather

Fortnightly (often on a Sunday afternoon) we come together to be spiritually fuelled and fed. We gather around a meal, fellowshipping and sharing life together in a similar way to that of the early church…

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” Acts 2:42

A Fusion Fellowship does not exist in a purpose built church structure, but can take place anywhere that is functional to gather in: a home, a school, a garden (in good weather!). There are no stages or pulpits, worship takes place in a circle together.

A Fusion Fellowship is not a large gathering, not usually more than twenty people strong. Once that number is reached it is time to look at dividing into two groups so that more people can comfortably join. The intention behind this is quality over quantity: prioritising the quality of community and personal engagement with the word of God, over large numbers gathering together.

Worship

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Hebrews 12:28-29

We put first things first which is Jesus as Lord, coming together to sit in His presence in  thankfulness, joy and worship. We pray together and listen to the Holy Spirit together. We seek and expect God’s presence to be among us.

Grow

Growing Together: Learning and Living the Word of God

We are all on a growth journey. We do this by deep connection with the word of God, the mentoring of the Holy Spirit and authentic and candid fellowship with one another.

Fusion fellowship style exploration of the word is about wrestling God’s Word into our hearts, minds and habits. We study God’s word ‘conversation’ style: talking it over together until we talk ourselves into living it.

In Matthew 7:24-25  Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

The key questions in a Fusion fellowship are always how we hear His word and put it into practice, living it out in our daily habits, relationships and choices.

Growing Personally: Community and Accountability

An essential ingredient of a Fusion Fellowship is having time together in groups of three (or four), sharing what we are hearing from Jesus, how He is calling us to grow and then praying for one another. These small groups foster growth through authentic community and deep personal accountability. Week by week they can support one another in the growth edges revealed to them by the Holy Spirit.

“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:19-20

Serve

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:13-16

Our salvation is in no way dependant on anything we do, Jesus alone has done everything needed to redeem us from darkness. But Jesus Himself is on a mission to redeem the whole world and He delights in having us partner with Him to accomplish His mission.

In John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” and then in Matthew chapter 5:14- Jesus then refocused this and said “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Jesus is calling His people to bring His light into the world around them.

Each of us has a calling and a good work chosen by God for us to accomplish, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” Ephesians 2:10.

A Fusion Fellowship is a place where we share together about the frontlines each of us have been called to and encourage one another practically and prayerfully to walk faithfully with Jesus in all He has for us to do in partnership with Him.

Sometimes we may serve together, but often we are strengthening one another to be salt and light wherever God has strategically placed us. We are all engaged and invested in living the great commission Jesus shared with us in Matthew 28:18-20 of being disciples and making disciples on every front we exist in.
