| In Jamaican English, if something “needs to be” done you just say it “wants” doing. i.e. “My hair want comb”, or “My car want fix”. Leoh, our Team Leader in Jamaica, who is adjusting to life in ministry with MS, said on a call this week that; “It feel like my knee want grease!” In the same call she mentioned how her right hand is often stiff, her left hand has started becoming stiff as well, her knee “feel like it want grease” and her ankle has also just started feeling very stiff and uncomfortable when driving... |
| Will also give life… Just as Leoh was feeling the discomfort, and wondering; “Is it permanent or temporary?” “What will that mean for driving and being able to get around?” she went to pick up some medication and discovered that hear health card allowance had run out! She confessed that this was one of those “Really God??!!” moments, when it all feels like a lot. She had been invited to a couples retreat that her church was running, but felt that there was no real way she could even think about that with everything else that was facing her. But then the phone rang, and it was someone from church letting her know that someone else in the church had sponsored her and Chad (her fiancé) to go on the retreat. The call didn’t answer all her questions. If she was to give God a priority list of her prayer points right now, the retreat would not have been at the top, but she instantly recognised that God knew that she and Chad needed some time away and some time to be close to Him together … and that restored her confidence that God is with her and is for her. Romans 8 is a beautiful chapter of Scripture (if you haven’t read it recently I highly recommend reading it). It is all about life, as a present reality, given to us through all that Jesus did and through God’s Spirit in us now. A little way in to this passage (v11) are the words: ‘And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you‘ Romans 8:11 God knows what it is to experience life in a mortal body, and has experienced physical pain in the most intense way. He went through this to make His life available to us. He knows when we “want encouragement”, and through the life of the Spirit in us as His people he works to restore our confidence in just the right way, at just the right moment. Keep praying for our teams as we all keep praying for one another. |
